Got Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about how Afraponix online training works.

View all frequently asked questions (16)
How long is each Afraponix training programme?
Aquaponics 101 runs for one week, fully online. AQUA Agribusiness runs for three weeks, fully online. AFRA Master runs for six weeks in total: five weeks online plus one week of practical, on-site training at our facility.
Do I need prior aquaponics experience to enrol?
No prior experience is required for Aquaponics 101 — it is our beginner-level foundation programme. The AQUA Agribusiness programme requires completion of Aquaponics 101, and the AFRA Master programme requires completion of AQUA.
What is the difference between AQUA and AFRA?
AQUA is our agribusiness-level programme that teaches you to launch a commercial aquaponics operation — system planning, financial modelling, operations and market positioning. AFRA is our master-level programme that builds on AQUA with advanced water quality, operating standards, professional masterclasses and a one-week hands-on practical.
Are the programmes online or in person?
Aquaponics 101 and AQUA are fully online. AFRA Master is hybrid — five weeks online plus one week of in-person practical training at our facility. All online sessions are run live with instructor support, not pre-recorded only.
When are online sessions held?
Live online sessions run 5pm–7pm SAST, scheduled across the duration of your programme. Every session is recorded and added to the learning platform within 24 hours, so you can catch up if you miss one or revisit anything later.
What if I'm not in South Africa — will the time zone work for me?
5pm–7pm SAST works comfortably across most of Africa, Europe and the Middle East. Common local equivalents:
  • West Africa (Lagos, Accra) — 3pm–5pm
  • UK (London) — 3pm–5pm winter, 4pm–6pm summer
  • Central Europe (Paris, Madrid) — 4pm–6pm winter, 5pm–7pm summer
  • Cairo · Johannesburg · Harare — 5pm–7pm
  • East Africa (Nairobi, Addis Ababa) — 6pm–8pm
  • Mauritius · Dubai — 7pm–9pm
  • India — 8:30pm–10:30pm
If you're in a very different time zone, you can rely on the recordings and the asynchronous forum — written feedback is given on the platform.
Where do I access the course content?
All training content lives on our dedicated learning platform at aquaponics.online — videos, manuals, assignments, quizzes and the community forum. You'll receive your login once your application is confirmed.
What do I need to participate?
A stable broadband connection (5 Mbps or better), a laptop or desktop with a webcam, and a quiet space for the live sessions. The learning platform runs in any modern browser — no software installs required.
How big is each cohort?
We cap cohorts at around 20–25 learners to keep instructor attention high. Once a cohort fills, new applications roll over to the next intake.
Can I ask questions during the live sessions?
Yes — live sessions are fully interactive. You can ask questions via voice or chat during the session. The community forum on aquaponics.online is open between sessions for asynchronous questions and instructor feedback.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes — every programme awards an Afraponix-issued operator certificate on completion: AQUA SPROUT Operator (Aquaponics 101), AQUA FLOURISH Professional (AQUA), AQUA HARVEST Master (AFRA). Certificates are recognised across our network and partner farms.
Is there support after I finish the course?
Yes — alumni keep platform access for life, can join the ongoing community, and get priority access to Afraponix consulting, system orders, and operator events.
What's included in the price?
Live online tuition, all session recordings, the digital training manual (physical copies can be arranged on request), your operator certificate, lifetime access to your cohort's materials, and the alumni community on aquaponics.online. AFRA adds a one-week practical at our facility.
What payment options are available?
After submitting your application, our team will email you a secure payment link with options for full payment, deposit-plus-balance, or instalments where applicable. Programme fees start at ZAR 1,900 for Aquaponics 101.
Does my fee carry forward if I upgrade between programmes?
Yes. Your previous programme fee is credited toward the next level: when you upgrade from Aquaponics 101 to AQUA, your 101 fee is applied to the AQUA cost, and the same applies when upgrading from AQUA to AFRA.
What if I need to drop out or reschedule?
Get in touch as early as possible. We'll transfer you to a later cohort wherever feasible. Refund terms are explained in your registration confirmation.
